Drivers who are under 21 years old are often treated differently than over-21 drivers. For example, a younger driver who gets several traffic tickets might lose driving privileges for 6 or 12 months, whereas an older driver might not. The blood alcohol limit for an under-21 driver is 0.02, but it is 0.08 for a driver over 21, and the license suspension penalties for under-21 DUI drivers are much more severe. A single speeding ticket can cause an under-21 driver to lose his/her license. Many times an under-21 driver pays a ticket without anyone warning him that he will lose his license as a result. If you are under 21 and have a traffic ticket, consult with a lawyer before going to court to avoid unwanted surprises.
